Benefex is named a top 10 big employer in the UK by the Sunday Times – for the second year running

We’re delighted to have not only made the Sunday Times Best Places to Work list – but also to have been listed as a top 10 big employer for the second year in a row. 🎉
The Sunday Times Best Places to Work Awards, powered by WorkL, recognises organisations who have achieved consistently high levels of employee experience and wellbeing in the UK.
The Sunday Times Best Places to Work Awards uses 26 questions from WorkL’s employee engagement survey, developed by behavioural scientists, data analysts, psychologists, business leaders, academics and other independent parties to most accurately monitor engagement, wellbeing and discretionary effort in the workplace. To achieve a high overall engagement score, an organisation must score well across WorkL’s six-step framework:
- Reward and Recognition
- Instilling Pride
- Information Sharing
- Empowerment
- Wellbeing
- Job Satisfaction
To be considered for the list, more than half of an organisation’s employees had to respond to the survey – and companies must achieve a minimum 70% overall engagement score. The top ten companies are those which achieved the highest engagement scores within the organisation size groupings.
Benefex scored highly in all areas of the survey – with a 90% score for employee empowerment, 88% for reward and recognition, 89% for average happiness, and 89% for job satisfaction.
94% of employees said they have a good relationship with their manager, and 88% of employees said they have confidence in management (against an industry benchmark of 76%). 91% of employees feel that the organisation cares for their wellbeing.

Here are just some of the ways we've been supporting our people in the just last 12 months:
- Benefexers have had early beta access to Benefex’s new card-based benefits allowances product – OneHub Wallet. All employees receive a £50/month card-based allowance that they can spend on anything they like! And Benefex is also paying the tax deductions on employees’ behalf so that employees can enjoy the full benefit of their allowance.
- We relaunched our values and our culture book – which are now used in the hiring process, our recognition programme, and performance reviews. In the last 12 months, we’ve welcomed 160 new joiners a (35% increase in our size), opened a new office in Cebu, Philippines, and acquired Cloud8. Relaunching our values and has helped to maintain our friendly and collaborative culture during rapid growth and align colleagues around the mission.
- In October 2023, we launched OneHub Wellbeing. Developed by psychologists, OneHub Wellbeing uses brief, low intensity digital interventions to help employees improve resilience. A massive 70% of Benefexers have used the tools since launch, with 80% saying the app helped improve their wellbeing, and 300 taking part in improvement plans.
- Our OneHub Recognition tool is a big part of our culture, allowing colleagues to send in-the-moment thank yous for living our values. In 2023, Benefexers sent 8,776 recognitions. Equivalent to 731/month, this is the most recognitions ever sent in one year and is a 24% increase vs 2022!
- We want every single one of our employees to thrive, so we’ve introduced new technology and processes to support this, including: Lattice which all employees use to set quarterly OKRs and for 6-monthly reviews with managers (on launch, 98% of Benefexers completed a review), Teamtailor to improve the hiring process for people managers and candidates, and Zellis payroll platform to improve the UX.
- To support employee financial wellbeing, we introduced TravelPerk in 2023 so employees can book work travel, without needing to pay out of pocket and claim.
